Professor Sebastiaan Heidt formed his own research group in the Immunology Department of the LUMC and became Director of the Eurotransplant Reference Laboratory after his postdoctoral studies at Oxford University. Starting in 2024, Sebastiaan Heidt is a professor at the Department of Internal Medicine at the Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. His work focuses on transplantation immunology with his main research interests being HLA epitope matching, the formation and detection of HLA-specific B cell memory, personalized medicine, and novel treatment options for sensitized patients. He received several awards, such as the Distinguished Scientist Award from the Dutch Transplant Society in 2018 and the Bernard Amos Distinguished Scientist Award from the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics in 2023. Sebastiaan is president of the International HLA and Immunogenetics workshop, member of the WHO committee for HLA nomenclature, and councilor of EFI. He serves as Section Editor for Solid Organ Transplantation of the HLA journal and is Associate Editor for the American Journal of Transplantation.
