Dr. Ryan Urbanowicz is an Assistant Professor of Computational Biomedicine at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles CA and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics at the University of Pennsylvania. He leads the URBS-Lab in the development, evaluation, and application of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) tools/methods targeting various biomedical data types and problems. This work more specifically includes the development of automated machine learning (AutoML), interpretable rule-based machine learning, complexity-sensitive feature selection, and evolutionary feature engineering methods, for application to various biomedical data types and outcomes, including obstructive sleep apnea, Alzheimer's disease, kidney transplantation, and pancreatic cancer. Dr. Urbanowicz is also a passionate educator with a YouTube channel dedicated to tutorials on student research, ML, AI, and data science in general.
