Dr. Alberto Cardoso Martins Lima is a Clinical Histocompatibility Consultant specializing in allogeneic HCT at IGEN/AFIP in São Paulo. He is also a former HLA Laboratory Director at CHC/UFPR in Curitiba. Dr. Lima holds a Master’s degree in Immunogenetics and a PhD in Internal Medicine, with a focus on alternative donor HCT. He is board-certified in Histocompatibility by the Brazilian Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Association (ABHI).
With 16 years of experience in the HCT field, Dr. Lima currently provides consultation on Histocompatibility and Donor Selection to several leading Brazilian HCT centers, supported by the IGEN/AFIP Laboratory. He is a full member of the Histocompatibility Advisory Committee of the Brazilian National Transplant System and serves as an Associate Editor for Human Immunology.
Dr. Lima’s research interests include the impact of HLA and non-HLA factors in pediatric HCT with HLA-mismatched allografts, the role of DSA in alternative donor transplants, HLA-DPB1 permissiveness models, and novel HLA (mis)matching algorithms to improve alternative donor selection. He is also interested in applying advanced biostatistical methods to evaluate outcomes in HCT using HLA-mismatched sources.
