Jill Hollenbach is Professor in the Department of Neurology and Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco. She was raised in California and completed her undergraduate studies in Physiology and Master’s degree in Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. After several years working in public health in the Caribbean and Bay Area, she returned to UC Berkeley for her doctoral studies in Immunology in the laboratory of Glenys Thomson, with an emphasis on population genetics of the HLA system. Throughout her career Dr. Hollenbach’s work has continued to focus on HLA, KIR, and related highly variable immunogenomic regions in disease association, transplantation and evolutionary studies. She has also been deeply involved in the establishment of community standards and software development for immunogenetic data management and analysis, the International Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Workshops, and is a Councilor of the International HLA and Immunogenetics Council and Associate Editor for disease association studies at HLA Journal. Dr. Hollenbach’s work has been featured in national and international media outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, CNN, BBC, and NPR.
