Michiko Taniguchi, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University in St. Louis and the Associate Director of the HLA Laboratory at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
She completed her Director-in-Training at City of Hope Medical Center in Duarte CA. Prior to that, she served as a senior research scientist at the Terasaki Foundation in Los Angeles, where she worked with Dr. Paul Terasaki on multiple projects related to HLA antibodies. Dr. Taniguchi’s interest in HLA began during her undergraduate training in hematology and medical laboratory sciences at RMIT University (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) in Australia. She also conducted research at RIKEN in Japan and received medical science training at the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland. Her current work focuses on epitope-based matching, antibody
characterization, and data-driven quality control automation by integrating SQL-based data pipelines with Power BI to enhance laboratory efficiency and clinical reporting.
