Postdoctoral Fellow
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
Dr. Hoang Anh Phan is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Immunogenetics Laboratory, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Under the mentorship of Dr. Dimitrios Monos, she is interested in leveraging her expertise in chemical biology and collaborating with computational experts to develop a systematic & comprehensive approach to assess and predict MHC-mediated alloreactivity, with the goal of optimizing the donor matching process and ultimately improving transplant patient outcome. Her general research aspiration is to integrate chemical biology, biochemical, and molecular biology techniques to form creative scientific tools & approaches that enable us to elucidate complex molecular mechanism and decipher a plethora of biological questions, especially those central in the context of immunology & human diseases such as allograft rejection in transplant, immune diseases, and cancers.
Dr. Phan obtained her PhD in Chemistry in 2023 from the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA), where she worked at the interfaces of biology, chemistry, and medicine in the lab of Dr. E. James Petersson. Her doctoral research focused on rational design of peptides as probes for disease-relevant proteases, therapeutic inhibitors, and agents for targeted cancer imaging. Before Penn, she graduated from Macalester College (Minnesota, MN) in 2018, with a double major in Chemistry (with Honors) and Biology, along with an added emphasis in Biochemistry to each major.
