Esmé Dijke, PhD, F(ACHI), is HLA Director of the histocompatibility laboratory at the University of Alberta Hospital and Assistant Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta. She received her PhD in transplant immunology at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where her doctoral studies focused on the role of regulatory T cells in adult heart transplant recipients. In 2009, she joined the lab of Dr. Lori West at the University of Alberta as a Postdoctoral Fellow, where she continued to study the development of tolerance after organ transplantation. In 2017, Esmé started her clinical postgraduate Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics training under supervision of Drs. Luis Hidalgo and Patricia Campbell, which she successfully completed in 2022. Her current research interests focus on the usage of regulatory T cells isolated from human thymus as a tolerogenic cell therapy, and the optimization of HLA antibody testing and risk assessment in solid organ transplantation.
